Celebrate Rural Women's Day
GLENRAC will host a full day event on World Rural Women’s Day, Wednesday 15th of October this year. The day celebrated internationally recognises the role and contribution of rural women, including indigenous women, enhancing agricultural and rural development, improving food security and eradicating rural poverty.
Landcare Coordinator, Kylie Falconer says ‘At a local level, it is hoped that the Rural Women’s Day can energise and inspire local rural women all of whom are affected by the drought conditions currently being experienced across our region. This is an opportunity for women to get off farm to have a fun and informative day out, network with other rural women and professional services providers. We have an impressive line-up of the presenters who will cover a range of topics over the course of the day.’
The morning program will feature presenters who will cover range of topics including looking after yourself; healthy in your community; farm business planning and current assistance; the benefits of women on committees and boards and goal setting. Speakers will include former local Jen Wright of Boil the Billy Coaching who will look at goal setting and set goals to achieve great things in your own life and family life; and Phoebe Maroulis of The RW Network who will address the important issue of how to make a contribution to your local community and not get burnt out in the process.
The Gather in the Glen committee will be providing the catering for the event with delicious morning tea and lunch planned and Little Phoenix will provide lunch time entertainment for a relaxing break.
The afternoon program will feature a number of concurrent sessions where those attending can select which sessions they would like to attend. These sessions are broadly grouped into three themes – Health & Wellness; Sustainable Agriculture and Adopting Technology. A copy of the program is now available on the GLENRAC website if you would like more information on this event.
GLENRAC has been fortunate to receive funding and in kind support from a number of event partners. Notably, Carers NSW and The Ascent Group who are providing funding for this inaugural event as part of the Australian Government’s Drought Support Program. One of the aims of the drought support program is to increase the awareness and level of social and mental health services in drought affected areas such as Glen Innes Severn including free counselling through Anglicare Northern Inland.
A number of displays hosted by event partners and other rural service providers will be on hand throughout the day for women to browse and access information in an informal setting. A free crèche will be available for under school age children but early notice is required if you would like this service.
The finale for the celebration of Rural Women’s Day will be a movie screening of “Goddess” at the Chapel Theatre at 7:30pm. A light supper and refreshments will be provided for a fee of $15, payable at the door. If you can’t join is for the day, join us for the evening!
Landcare Coordinator Kylie Falconer says ‘This will be the first time GLENRAC will host a women’s event and it is hoped that we can make it an annual event for our Glen Innes community for the future.”
