Soils Solutions for Glen Innes Farmers

02nd Apr 2014

Are you a landholder and would like to know more about your soils? A series of workshops will be taking place over the coming months on soils and how they can be improved. Participation is free, and will include a soil analysis for each landholder, thanks to the support of the Northern Tablelands Local Land Services.

The workshops will be presented by local consultant Jeff Lowien. “It is important for landholders to understand their soils in order to make them as productive and resilient as possible, and the dry times have highlighted the need to farm smarter, not harder” he said. “Soils are the foundations of any production enterprise, and we need to know what we’ve got and how to work with it, to achieve the best, most stable outcomes.”

The first workshop will be focussed on the basics of soil health, and soil testing methods. After the day participants will take a sample from their own property to be sent away for testing, and the second workshop will be held after the analyses have returned. It will focus on interpreting the results, and possible course of action to take.

The first workshop will be on the 16th of April at “Roseneath”, Dundee. RSVPs are essential, so please contact the office if you’re interested. Anyone who can’t make it to that day is encouraged to get in touch, as we are planning to run a second series of workshops at a different location.
