Funding Available for NRM Projects On-Farm
Now that we have moved towards drought and bush fire recovery in the Northern Tablelands region there is some hope on the horizon for better seasons ahead. Perhaps there is an opportunity to rebuild our production and environmental landscapes.
Landholders may be looking at ways to protect and improve waterways with fencing; provide alternate water points where stock are excluded from water sources; plant shelter belts or wind breaks with native trees and shrubs; improve habitat for threatened species like woodland birds and protect and manage existing native vegetation by fencing off areas.
If you are thinking about any of these sorts of on-farm projects, you are encouraged to contact Northern Tablelands Local Land Services as we have funding available through the Australian Government’s National Landcare Program.
Local Land Services is working to boost environmental outcomes on farm by connecting native vegetation patches and improving the health of our waterways and adjacent land, as well as improving conditions for threatened species and threatened ecological communities.
An Expression of Interest process is now open for projects that achieve improved natural resource management on farms.
The Northern Tablelands Local Land Services team can help identify opportunities and work through project ideas with landholders. Projects are to be delivered within 18 months.
Martin Dillon, Environment Team Senior Land Services Officer at Northern Tablelands Local Land Services, recognises the invaluable possibilities presented by the program.
“With extreme pressure on landholders and the landscape in the last couple of years it is clear that these have taken their toll on waterways and habitat too.
“I encourage landholders interested in improving the natural resources on their farm to apply. You are welcome to contact us to discuss your project ideas,” Martin said.
Expressions of Interest will be assessed against a set of criteria including funding availability, landholder contribution, Australian Government priorities under the National Landcare Program and value for money.
