Committees with Confidence - Effective Meeting Management

31st May 2019

The logistics of setting up or joining a committee can be daunting. Meetings, minutes, financials – it can all seem a little overwhelming, especially if you haven’t had much experience with board structures before.

But strong, collaborative leadership is the backbone to any organization; regardless of whether the group focus is sport, the environment or community events. Professionally run committee meetings provide a forum for the sharing of ideas, positive reflection on past proceedings, and action plans for the future success of the whole group.

GLENRAC are hosting two free workshops to help you learn the ins and outs of effective committee management. Whether you’re thinking about joining the school P&C, starting a book club or planning a town fundraiser, the ‘Committees with Confidence’ seminars will give you confidence, and assist you in developing the skill set to make your next group meeting a triumph.

“Council encourages residents to become involved with local community committees as volunteers,” says the Director of Corporate and Community Services at Glen Innes Severn Council, Anna Watt. “For those people who have either never been on a committee, or have limited experience of what is involved in being a committee member or on the executive of a committee, there can be some reservation in getting involved.

“For this reason Council, in conjunction with GLENRAC and the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal, is providing free workshops which will contribute to the skills that will make you feel more confident in becoming involved.”

The sessions will cover everything you need to know for taking part in an effective board meeting, including planning and strategy, minute taking, record keeping, the roles and responsibilities of each group member and the legal obligations of everyone on the committee.

There will be two free workshop sessions held at the Glen Innes Services Club Boardroom on Thursday, 13th June – an afternoon workshop from 1:00-4:00pm, and an evening workshop from 6:00pm-9:00pm – to give all community members the best opportunity to attend. Light refreshments will be provided.

These events are supported by Glen Innes Severn Council and the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal Small Grants for Rural Communities program.
